Representatives from Gayle Gerth’s Dana Point Farm near Lenhartsville, Pa., have announced the return of multiple graded stakes winning stallion Sir Shackleton for the 2014 breeding season. Sir Shackleton had recently been standing in Indiana.
The stallion entered stud in 2007 at Castleton Lyons near Lexington. He moved to Dana Point Farm in Pennsylvania for the 2009 breeding season, and has spent the past two seasons standing at Indiana Stallion Station.
“After the wonderful reviews we received on his Pennsylvania crops, we were encouraged to bring him back,” said Maria Vorhauer, manager of Dana Point.
Sir Shackleton will return to Dana Point this week and a stud fee for 2014 will be announced at a later date.
A 12-year-old son of Miswaki out of the Star de Naskra mare Naskra Colors, Sir Shackleton was bred in Kentucky by owner Tracy Farmer.
During his three-year racing career the Nick Zito trainee captured four stakes events: the Richter Scale Breeders’ Cup Sprint Championship Handicap (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park; the Derby Trial Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs; the West Virginia Derby (gr. III) at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort; and the Super Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.
Sir Shackleton is also four times graded stakes-placed with a runner-up finish in the grade I Woodward Stakes as well as thirds in the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I), the Whitney Handicap (gr. I), and the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II).
Upon his retirement he boasted a record 7-2-3 from 20 starts and earnings totaling $1,051,500.
Of the 53 starters from Sir Shackleton’s four crops of racing age, 31 are winners, including Clasico Esmeralda (Mex-I) winner Manola, stakes-placed Enduring Star, and Patty’s Key.
