An almost two-month quarantine tied to equine herpesvirus at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania has been officially lifted, a track official said Jan. 13.
“We are all clear,” director of racing Sal Sinatra said.
The quarantine of two barns began in early November when a horse tested positive for EHV-1. The situation kept horses from entering or leaving the grounds, which led to the cancellation of several stakes.
The lifting of the quarantine allowed trainer Robert Reid Jr. to ship Swilcan Stables’ Vero Amore to Aqueduct Racetrack for the Jan. 12 Ruthless Stakes. The 3-year-old filly finished second, a nose behind Mamdooha.
During the quarantine Parx was able to fill eight races a day. Numerous cancellations in December were related to track and weather conditions, not the quarantine.
