Five Races for Pennsylvania-Bred/Sired Horses Added to 2013 Penn National Stakes Schedule

Grantville, PA (Friday, April 26, 2013) – Five races for Pennsylvania-bred and/or sired horses have been added to the 2013 stakes schedule at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, including two that will complement the inaugural running of the $500,000 Penn Mile.
The E Dubai HBPA for all 3-year-olds and up and the Silver Train HBPA for fillies and mares represent a pair of $60,000 six furlong dirt sprints for Pennsylvania-bred or Pennsylvania-sired horses on Saturday, June 1. These two races will be run on the same card featuring the $500,000 Penn Mile for 3-year-olds on the turf, the $250,000 Mountainview Handicap for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles, the $150,000 Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup for 3-year-olds and up going five furlongs on the turf, and the $50,000 Penn Dash for 3-year-olds and up going five furlongs.
“It’s terrific that we were able to add two races highlighting some of Pennsylvania’s most talented homebreds and stallions to what should be the biggest day of racing ever held at Penn National,” said Dan Silver, director of racing operations at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course. “We have to thank the Pennsylvania HBPA for helping make these state-focused stakes a reality.”
A pair of 1 1/16 mile turf events for Pennsylvania-sired horses, the Smarty Jones HBPA and the Wiseman’s Ferry HBPA, will highlight Pennsylvania Owners Day, which will be held on Saturday, June 22. Outside of the two stakes events, every race on this exciting day will be for Pennsylvania-bred horses, showcasing some of the very best thoroughbreds that the state has to offer.
The final Pennsylvania-bred stakes race of the year at Penn National is the $75,000 Blue Mountain for 2-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the dirt. It will be held Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 27 on a card also featuring the $250,000 Fabulous Strike Handicap for 3-year-olds and up going six furlongs, the $150,000 Lady in Waiting for filly and mare sprinters, and the $150,000 Swatara for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/16 miles, all on the dirt.
