On October 22, 2016 Trooper John went up against 8 other horses in the $49,000 Canadian Juvenile at Northlands Park in Edmonton. With jockey Keishan Balgobin in the irons, Trooper John won by 8 1/2 lengths. He paid $23.30.
Trooper John vied for the early lead prompted from between rivals, gained the lead at the quarter pole, and widened to win easily. Double Bear showed good inside speed to set the early pace, but was unable to moveon with the eventual winner and finished evenly. Hyannisport was reserved off the pacesetters, was tiring, and finished on the wire with Xtreme Lyra.
The final time was 1:39.65.
