Sons of 2014’s current leading sire Tapit are in high demand these days, and Pennsylvania will get its first as Pointer Farm near Bernville has announced Winchill will stand there for the 2015 breeding season.
His fee will be $3,000 live foal, with consideration for Pennsylvania foaling mares.
Bred in Pennsylvania by Gum Tree Stables & Partners, Winchill is out of the graded stakes-placed Phone Trick mare Exclusive Hold. Exclusive Hold broke her maiden at first asking at Belmont Park, then ran second in the Schuylerville Stakes (gr. II) and third (behind champion Storm Song) in the Adirondack Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga.
Winchill is half brother to five winners, including the dam of stakes-placed Staturtorial, and descends from the family of sires Punctilio, Faithful Son, Always Fair, Asaasy, Keep the Faith, and Gay Fandango.
Winner of last year’s First Responder Stakes at Parx Racing at 1 1/16 miles, Winchill placed in three other two turn stakes. In five years on the track, Winchill won six of 22 starts, ran second four times and third twice and earned $288,294. He closed out his racing career on top with a score over allowance company at Parx June 16, getting a mile in 1:36.45.
He was precocious enough to break his maiden at first asking going six furlongs and also won an allowance race at 2 at Churchill Downs.
Pewter Stable purchased Winchill when he was 3 for $52,000 as part of the Heiligbrodt Racing Stable dispersal in 2011, after Winchill’s juvenile campaign.

Tapit is the sire of 53 stakes winners and has 12 added money winners this year including four top 3-year-olds: Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winnerTonalist; Untapable, the pro tem leader of the 3-year-old filly ranks; multiple graded winner Tapiture; and Besilu Stables Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Constitution.
