So Many Ways Sold to Northern Farms in Japan

Owner Maggi Moss said Sept. 23 she has sold grade I-winning 3-year-old filly So Many Ways to Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farms in Hokkaido, Japan, for breeding purposes. The purchase price wasn’t disclosed.

A release indicated So Many Ways will no longer race. She won five of 10 starts for earnings of $717,148, and in her most recent start Sept. 21 won the $400,000 Charles Town Oaks at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

The Pennsylvania-bred filly by Sightseeing   out of the Dehere mare Happy Scene was purchased for $22,000 at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Maryland sale. She was trained by Tony Dutrow and then Tom Amoss.

So Many Ways won the Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) and Schuylerville Stakes (gr. III) for Dutrow at 2, and this year won the Eight Belles Stakes (gr. III) and Charles Town Oaks for Amoss.

“I am grateful to Jim Schenck of Lexington for discovering this filly, and to Franklin Smith of Elloree, S.C., for developing her,” Moss said in the release. “I would also like to thank Tony Dutrow for the irreplaceable memories of her wins at Saratoga, and the amazing job he did with her. I am grateful for the exceptional job Tom Amoss did this year in understanding her and loving her as much as I did in her gutsy and amazing wins in 2013.

“Most of all, it is not her tenaciousness or athleticism that I will remember, but her kind and almost human personality that made this decision so difficult. I am confident that her new home with Mr. Yoshida, alongside Azeri, Zazu, Musical Romance, and other great mares, that she will be amongst royalty and taken care of in the same loving and wonderful environment.”
