Sent off as favorite in the Kentucky Derby-G1, he rallied from more than a dozen lengths back to finish third. On the board in all nine starts in 2023, Nimitz Class ran a win streak to five in the early months of the year with victories in the John B. Campbell, Harrison E. Johnson Memorial and Native Dancer, all at Laurel Park, and an allowance score at Parx. He recorded his fifth win of the year in the Parx Dirt Mile while defeating multiple Grade 1 winner Gunite. In between were seconds in the Grade 3 Salvator Mile, Deputed Testamo- ny and Storm Cat Stakes and he concluded his season with a third in the M.P. Ballezzi Appreciation Mile.
