PENNSYLVANIA HORSEWOMAN DONA ALBRIGHT DIES

The Penn National racing community lost the matriarch of one of its foundation families on March 11 with the passing of 74-year old owner-breeder-trainer Dona Albright.

Mrs. Albright and her late husband George were fixtures on the Penn National backstretch for nearly four decades. They were supporters of the Pennsylvania Horse Breeding program and many of the horses in their stable were bred in the Keystone State.

The Albrights also passed on their extensive knowledge and passion for racing to their children, many of whom are still active on local racing circuits. Amy, George “Rusty” Albright, Jr., Alice, and Alfie have all been involved in racing throughout their lives as trainers and jockeys, and her granddaughter Kaylia is currently a regular member of the Penn National riding colony.

Dona Albright was active in the sport right up to her death, saddling two winners from nine starters in 2015. She is credited with a career record of 370 winners from 3,618 starters and earnings of $2,321,255.
