DISCO CHICK SPRINTS TO IMPRESSIVE WIN IN FOXY JG

Parx featured three stakes on its Saturday program, two for state-breds and an open sprint for three year-old fillies.  Favorites ruled the day.

The $100,000 Foxy J G Stakes for PA-bred fillies and mares three and up went to Freedom Acres’ Disco Chick.  It was the third consecutive stakes win this year for the 5 year-old daughter of Jump Start and she did it in her usual front running style.  In front shortly after the start, she had some early pressure from Pixie Dust and led by only a half-length after an opening quarter of 22.66.  Under Trevor McCarthy, she would blow the race open with a dazzling second quarter in 21.92 and with three furlongs to go, she found herself with a five length lead.  She continued to widen that advantage past the eighth pole to nearly ten before gearing down at the end and coasting home much the best.  Off as the overwhelming 1-5, Disco Chick, trained by Mario Serey, Jr., returned all of $2.40 to win and finished the seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:23.65.

Gyphon Investments’ Eighth Wonder was also a prohibitive 1-5 in the $100,000 Jostle Stakes for three year-old fillies and she also rolled home to a decisive victory.  The Pioneerofthenile filly bobbled slightly at the break and then had to work a bit to get the lead through the opening quarter mile, but after that, was not tested.  Reaching the front after a first quarter of 22.19, her lead grew to a clear two lengths with three eighths to go.  Under nothing more than a hand ride from jockey Jose Flores, she continued to slowly extend that lead around the far turn and then came to the final furlong with a solid four length advantage.  Strong to the end, she carried a five length margin across the wire for the second stakes win of her five race career.  Trained by Dee Curry, she paid $2.40 to win and covered six and a half furlongs in 1:17.62.

Roxbury N Overton proved best in the $100,000 Lyman Stakes for Pennsylvania-bred three year olds and up, chasing fleet front runner He’s Got Talent before seizing the lead midway around the far turn and then edging away to a two length win.  Off as the betting favorite at 2-1, Roxbury N Overton was three lengths behind after watching his rival blaze through an opening quarter in 21.95.  Gradually closing the gap to the far turn, the 4 year-old Andiron colt engaged the leader with about three furlongs to go before finally beginning to gain the advantage with about a quarter mile remaining. He’s Got Talent held tough briefly, but past the eighth pole, could resist no longer.  Roxbury N Overton finally got clear and flashed home a clear cut winner.  Ridden by Hector Caballero and trained by Ramon Preciado, he paid $6.60 to win and ran the seven furlongs over a in 1:22.88.
